Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas

It’s practically a sure thing that Reggie Bush is going to be gone from Miami next year. That leaves the running back position to two young guys with a lot of promise in 2013 fantasy football. Lamar Miller is the kind of one cut slasher that gets tons of yardage in today’s NFL. Daniel Thomas is a bruising between the tackles runner that can get things done in the red zone. Together they make a great running back in 2013 fantasy football but unfortunately they are two distinct entities and they will be judged separately in 2013 fantasy football leagues. Miller is probably the better choice among the two if nothing else gets added to the mix in Miami. He’s going to be a great between the 20s runner with homerun ability. He’s fast enough to score outside of the red zone too so that only adds to his value. Still he’s not expected to get the call when Miami goes to goal line sets.

That’s where Thomas comes into the equation. He’s a big guy with a punishing running style but he lacks top end speed and it’ll kill him in 2013 fantasy football leagues. He does have soft hands though and he’s going to get some looks as a third down back if he can keep it up. Thomas though won’t get the bulk of the carries in Miami and it will relegate him to the later rounds. He would make an ideal handcuff for Miller but the problem is that you probably won’t be able to get both because Miller is a later round pick as well. If you believe strongly in the Miami running game then you should get both but for the moment the smart money is on Miller this year. He probably won’t go until the ninth round and Thomas shouldn’t be far behind him.
